Geyser Installation Process

Replacing a geyser requires precision and compliance. Here’s how we handle it:

Inspection & isolation

We identify the make, size, and serial number of the old geyser and verify any warranties. The technician isolates the geyser to prevent further leaks, restoring cold water to your property.

SANS compliance check

We inspect the site to ensure compliance with SANS 10254 standards, including a new drip tray, reinforced platform, and proper overflow discharge.

Reconnection & insulation

The geyser is reconnected to your water and power supply, fitted with R-rated pipe insulation, and grounded for electrical safety.

Types of Geysers We Install

Electric Geysers

Cost-effective with energy-efficient options available, including “B-rated” models for lower heat loss. New models are solar-compatible.

Solar Geysers

Environmentally friendly and cost-saving in the long run. Solar panels on a north-facing roof heat the water, reducing electricity needs. Equipped with smart timing devices for efficient energy use.

Under-Counter Geysers

Compact, convenient for offices or small spaces requiring instant hot water.

Monster Plumbing’s preferred supplier is Kwikot, also known as Electrolux – the leading geyser manufacturer in South Africa. Our Kwikot products, installed in a compliant manner, are under warranty.

geyser sizes

Choosing the Right Geyser Size

100L: Suitable for homes with one to two people or small business spaces.

150L: Ideal for three to five people, usually with two to three bathrooms.

200–250L:Serves larger households or commercial spaces with multiple hot water points, often connected to solar or heat pumps for efficiency.

We can help you choose the best geyser for your needs.

Key Geyser Components & Their Roles

Geyser Blanket

Insulates the tank to reduce heat loss and save energy.

Element & Thermostat

The element heats the water, and the thermostat regulates temperature. For efficiency, set the thermostat to 55°C.

Anode

Prevents corrosion inside the tank, extending the geyser lifespan. Regular inspection every 18–24 months is recommended.

Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV)

Balances cold and hot water pressure, essential for mixer tap functionality in older plumbing systems.

Geyser Timer

Reduces energy costs by controlling heating times. Smart timers offer live temperature readings and fault alerts.

Geyser FAQ

Why does a geyser burst?

Geyser tanks corrode over time due to oxidation, weakening under pressure until they burst.

How do I know if my geyser burst?

Water will appear in the drip tray, discharge via an outlet pipe, or leak visibly from the installation area.

How long does installation take?

Initial assessments take about an hour; replacement can range from two to six hours, depending on tank size and location.

What can cause delays in geyser installation or replacement?

Insurance processing can delay replacements, as quotes require approval. Custom drip trays or roof installations may also take longer due to specialised requirements.

Why is my water not warming up?

Common causes include faulty power supply, element, thermostat, or isolation switch.

What if water is pouring from the overflow?

This is typically due to pressure relief through the pressure regulating valve (PRV) or a faulty thermostat causing continuous heating.

How long does a geyser typically last?

Most geysers come with a five-year manufacturer warranty, covering replacement if installed correctly. High-pressure geysers can last five to ten years or more with proper maintenance, such as regular anode inspections and servicing.

What reports, guarantees, and certificates do you provide?

We provide a tax invoice, a written site report for insurance claims, and photos of the old and new installations. Certificates of Compliance (COCs) are issued for new installations and replacements, including Schedule 4 COCs for property sales.

Are your installations SANS compliant?

Yes, we follow SANS 10254 standards. Homeowners can choose full compliance for new installations. A fully compliant installation with a Schedule 4 COC is required for property sales.
